Engineering Firm Updates Committee on Scope of Current Study

The Ulster County Legislature’s Housing and Transportation Committee received a presentation from Tom Baird, senior associate at Barton & Loguidice, regarding the engineering study being conducted on the “undesignated section” of the Ulster & Delaware Corridor.

Baird’s presentation, which was part of the committee’s regularly scheduled meeting last week, discussed the current study status, the operating philosophy of the engineering team, the focus of the study and the deadline for completion.

The Ulster County Legislature contracted with the engineering firm late last year to provide options — including proposed costs — for (1) trail only, (2) rail only or (3) rail-plus-trail.

Baird’s presentation touched on the high fill area, the rock cut area, wetlands and the possible impacts on habitat and wildlife. According to Committee Chair Debra Clinton, the next presentation from Barton & Loguidice is scheduled for May 7. The final study is due by July 1, according to the contract, so the full legislature will be able to review it this summer.

The slide presentation was released to the public and is available here.
