The Happy Trails Photo Contest’s exhibit opening was a resounding success, with dozens of community members enjoying the exhibit on the day of its opening, March 7. Category prizes and the Best in Show awards were given by the judges as attendees viewed all submissions celebrating art of the ART!
The contest was launched last fall to honor the Ashokan Rail Trail’s more than six years of operation. Co-sponsored by KATrail.org, the Woodstock Land Conservancy and CPW: The Center for Photography at Woodstock, the contest encouraged submissions from both professional and amateur photographers.
“The Ashokan Rail Trail has been in the news for the last 18 months due to the renewed legislative interest in the Ulster & Delaware Corridor, specifically the section just south of the rail trail known as the ‘undesignated section’,” Woodstock Land Conservancy Executive Director Andy Mossey said. “We wanted to ensure it is also in the news for its positive impact on our county in the last six years, its stunning beauty and its significance as a gathering place for families and friends.”
Professional photographers Jamie Kennard, Phil Mansfield and Amanda Russo Rubman judged the entries. The exhibit runs through April 5 within the Community Gallery at CPW, located at 25 Dederick Street in Kingston.

Amanda Russo Rubman awarded Maura Rapkin with the award for the flora and fauna category. Maura also won the Best in Show Award!
